maybe this one DEFINITELY isn’t right
Written by Rob on June 8, 2007 – 3:58 pm -It’s certainly an extreme case, but considering her sentencing took place on the very same day, it makes for an interesting contrast. After killing her preacher husband by shooting him in the back as he lay in bed and subsequently fleeing out of state, Mary Winkler learned today that she may only spend another 60 days in state custody! For manslaughter!!!
I don’t like comparing cases because I really believe every case is different, and perhaps the sentences in each case are just. And it’s definitely a good thing that the judges have the flexibility in each case to hand down the sentence they see fit. Still, it’s hard for me to conclude that Paris Hilton is getting off easy serving 45 days for a first conviction DUI, while Mary Winkler serves only an extra 15 (DAYS again, not months or years!) for killing her husband in cold blood.
Edit: Winklers sentence being the one seeming very insufficient … Hiltons may be unfair, but certainly Winklers seems more confusing .. I see I make that pretty unclear …
Maybe both sentences are crazy, maybe both are fair. From here, though, only one of them seems wildly out of whack for the crime they committed.
